Frame one or more embroideries.
Changing Frame Properties: Grapes and Birds
Clear the work area or open a new window.
In the Quick Access toolbar, click Insert
.
Browse to \mySewnet\Samples\Embroidery \Stitch.
Click to load "Grapes and Birds" into the work area.
The embroidery has white handles on its selection box, showing that it is initially in Scale rather than Resize
mode (blue handles).
Click the Frame tab.
Click Corners
.
Click the arrow to the right of the frames gallery and scroll down to the Ornamental 2 MC set.
Click the first set of corners in the gallery, number 1.
These corners are designed to frame a square embroidery. Corners 4–6 and 7–9 are for portrait and landscape formats.
In Frame Surround, select Margin and ensure that it is set to 2.5 mm. (This is the default size.)
Ensure that Group is selected.
Click Apply
. The set of corners is placed around the embroidery as a frame. It has orange handles, and a solid outline.
Drag the frame a short distance. The embroidery and frame move as a unit.
If the embroidery does not move with the frame, Group was not selected. Group makes the embroidery and frame act as one unit. To adjust the embroidery or frame, select Reveal Groups on the FilmStrip or the context menu, then make the adjustments.
The frame would look better if it fitted a little more snugly. Click Undo
until only the Grapes and Birds embroidery remains.
In the Frame tab, click the down arrow to change Margin to 0.5 mm.
Click Apply
. The frame now fits closely around the embroidery, but does not overlap it.
The satin line on the outside of the corners is a little heavy. Its width can be changed, and its ends can be tapered.
Right-click the frame, then click Reveal Groups
.
Right-click the frame again and select Satin Line from the Context menu. The Satin Line properties dialog appears. See Satin Line.
Alternatively, you could have used Stitch Type to change the satin properties before placing the frame.
In the Satin Line properties dialog, click the down arrow to change Width to 2.5 mm.
Click to select Right Taper for both Start Point
and End Point
.
Click OK. The frame is now more delicate.
Click outside the frame to view the design without the selection box.
Alternatively, click Realistic 3D mode
or Life View
to see the design without the selection box and grid.
Create a Framed Badge: Champion Dad
In the Quick Access toolbar, click Change Hoop
. In the Hoop Selection dialog box select 180mm x 130mm - Universal Large Hoop 1.
Set Orientation to Natural and click OK.
In the Quick Access toolbar at the top of the screen, click Insert
.
Browse to \mySewnet\Samples\Embroidery\Stitch.
Scroll down until you see "Biplane", and click to select it.
Click Open to load the embroidery into the work area.

Click the Frame tab.
In Category, ensure that Frames
is selected.
Select the second (round) frame in Applique Shields 1 (the top set in the list).
In the Stitch Type drop-down menu at the far right, select Appliqué Fabric. The Appliqué Selection dialog box opens.
Click Load Previously Saved Fabric
. The Picture Viewer opens.
Browse to the folder General\Checkerboard.
Scroll down and select the fabric Checkers Round 1 - 18, then click OK. The Picture Viewer will close and the fabric will be shown in the Appliqué Selection dialog box.
Click OK to close the Appliqué Selection dialog box.
Ensure that the embroidery is still selected and click Apply
to place the frame around the embroidery.
In the Color Select on the right, double-click the top color in the list. This is the blue for the frame.
In the Quick Colors click the dark yellow in row 4 column 7.
In the Color Selection dialog box keep this gold color, or choose a slightly darker color.
Click OK to close the Color Selection dialog. The frame border is now a gold color.
Click the Letter tab.
In the font gallery on the left, scroll to the Modern font category.
Select the font Carlton UC 15-45mm.
Enter the word "Champion" in the Letters text box and press Enter on the keyboard for a new line.
In the line below enter the word "Dad".
Set Gap to 10.
In the Lettering Shape area, click Full Circle
.
In Stitches, ensure that ColorSort is selected (checked).
Click Apply
. The lettering appears around the embroidery. Its handles are green.
If the lettering does not surround the embroidery, the embroidery was not selected. Click Undo
, click to select the embroidery, then click Apply again.
Drag the square green handle at the top of the circle of lettering downwards so that it fits well around the framed embroidery.
In the Quick Access toolbar, click Design Player
to see the embroidery as it will be stitched out.
Click Cancel to close the Design Player.
In the Quick Access toolbar, click Save As
and save the embroidery as "Champion Dad".
The various parts of this multipart embroidery will be stored separately, making further adjustment easier.
