Preparing Pictures

Picture Size

It is recommended to use pictures that have a longest side that is from 500 to 2000 pixels.

Small pictures with a longest side that is less than 500 pixels may not have enough detail, and may appear blocky on screen and when they are printed.

Large pictures with one or both sides longer than 2000 pixels can be used. For example, many digital cameras now take digital pictures that are 2400x1600 pixels or larger. However, they may require a considerable amount of your computer’s resources and may cause mySewnet™ Sketch to function more slowly than is optimal. If you wish to use all of a large picture, you may wish to resize it to a smaller size before opening it in the Load Design Wizard. Alternatively, simply crop the picture in the Load Design Wizard to keep a smaller section of the picture.

General Picture Editing

You may wish to adjust a picture. For example, if you need to repair blemishes in the picture, change the size of a picture, add text or apply a special effect such as monochrome or posterization.

Use mySewnet™ Draw & Paint to edit pictures. Alternatively, use other picture editing software.

Pictures with Soft Features

Sometimes you may have a picture that does not have any sharp features, or where the corners may not be obvious because of white space in the picture. In this case, you may wish to edit the picture before opening it in the Load Design Wizard, and mark the corners of the picture with small dots. Use a color for the dots that will be inconspicuous on the fabric you wish to use for your mySewnet™ Sketch design, such as the pale gray used in 'Sunflowers Vase.jpg'. You can then use the automatic corner alignment stitches to align the embroidery to the dots.
