Use Box Select 
to select crosses and backstitch in a rectangular area. Only stitches that are on grid points that are completely enclosed by the selection line are selected.
Box Select is also activated automatically when a block is pasted into a design.
To select cross stitch designs with Box Select

Click the Box Select
button on the toolbar, then drag
around the area you want to select.

Choose Edit > Box Select, then drag around the area you want to select.
