Use Background Visibility 
to open a pop-up menu and select one of the background visibility options.

Background On shows the background at full visibility. See Background On.

Background Off hides the background. See Background Off.

Fade Background (or ⌘K) opens the Fade Background dialog where you can set the visibility for the background garment or fabric. See Fade Background Dialog.

Click the Background Visibility
button on the toolbar, then choose Background On, Fade Background or Background Off from the pop-up menu.
Note: You can also set the visibility of the background with the Background Visibility menu options. See Background Visibility.
